This weeks Readers Rides comes from Amy from Kendal in Cumbria who shows us her1969 Low Light Early Bay Window Camper Van named ‘Dolly’.
Amy loves her van so much she has decided to share it with the world by hiring it out for camping holidays in the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales. For more information regarding hiring Dolly, please visit their website.
About the van
Dolly is a 1969 early bay, type 2 Volkswagen camper van. She has a reconditioned engine so she goes a bit quicker than when she left the factory. (more…)

As graphic designers, both Lu and I are particularly passionate about retro and vintage artwork. Team this up with our love for VW Camper Vans and you get some of our favourite adverts ever created!
I have been scouring the web to find some of the best examples of retro Volkswagen adverts and thought I would share with your my favourites.
These retro VW adverts are clean, simple and each one sends a clear message to their audience. The sense of continuity is spot on and their word play and copy really does set the standard (if you can put up with the sexism!).

This weeks guest blog post comes from Jed, a long time VW Camper Van enthusiast from the States who tells us how, after a long time, he finally got the chance to own his own.
One day I was walking through a junkyard with my father looking for front-end parts for his bug, I came across this green VW camper bus.
“Dad,” I yelled over, “is this one of those VW bus.”
“Yes,” he replied, “Don’t play with it and get over here!”
I just could not help myself. One little look could not hurt, and then it happened I was hooked and had to have a VW bus. I did not feel the full pull of this desire until months after seeing that green bus, but all VW buses started looking good from that point forward. (more…)

A couple of weeks ago, I spent a long weekend washing and waxing our VW Type 25 Camper Van. Whilst doing this, I was shocked (and annoyed) to see the first stages of bubbling on the paint work. Regular readers will know that just over 12 months ago I had my van stripped down and re-sprayed in an attempt to save it from the rust that was forming in the usual places (seams / lower offside panel / etc).
Now, just over a year on, it seems I will have to book the van back in to have some spots touched up within the next couple of months!
This got me thinking, is it possible to have a hassle free VW camper van? One that has the iconic style of a VW without the constant battle of trying to keep it looking nice? One that simply looks nice all the time? (more…)

I was going through my iPhoto library the other day and could not believe how many shots I had of random VW Camper Vans. It seems every time I see one I have take a photo of it (those of you who follow the VW Camper Van Blog on Twitter will know this as I often tweet the photos straight from my phone).
As I have so many photos I have set up a VW Camper Van Blog Flickr account so please feel free to take a look and follow me on Flickr. I have also set up a VW Camper Van Blog Flickr Group for anyone who wants to upload there own photos of VW Vans.
Anyway, I thought I would go through all the photos I have and post some of them here. Some are from the various shows I attended last year and others have just been shot on the roadside. Oh, and I have thrown in a couple of shots of my own van for good measure!

Whether it’s for inspiration for your own VW Van or just for fun, looking at other photos of VW Camper Vans and Buses is sometimes addictive. It’s great going through the ’show us yours’ sections on the forums and seeing what other people have done with their vans.
One of the best places to find images of VW Camper Vans is Flickr. Flickr is an online photo sharing site which allows the user to upload images to groups or to create their own groups. If you ever want to search for an image of something, it can normally be found on Flickr.
Recently, I started searching through the many VW Camper Van related image galleries that can be found on Flickr and here I share with you the best ones I have found:
