Our new van: VW T5 2.5TDi 4Motion Kombi
Yes, after months and months of deliberation we have finally made a decision and gone for a VW T5.
The van is a 2007 T5 Kombi 2.5TDi. It is currently a Kombi so has removable seats in the back. It is the 4Motion version with 140bhp so is fairly nippy and great on the Motorway.
The van has leather seats throughout (which I will be selling shortly if anyone is interested) and is fitted with the electric pack (mirrors and windows) and has VW alloys.
So, what’s the plan? The van will shortly be going in to be converted to a camper (without a pop roof initially but that will be added later on) and then I am planning on getting some Carravelle bumpers colour coded and fitter along with colour coding the mirrors.
We thought long and hard about which van to go for and were so very close to getting a Bay Window but in the end, practicality reigned supreme. Speed, comfort and reliability now await (until I get bored and go and buy a Bay or Split!!)
I will be posting more photos and info soon as the conversion gets underway.
What do you think? Right choice? Wrong choice?

How is the conversion going? I bought a pre-converted 1992 Murvi motorhome in February 2011, and plan on doing some upgrades before going touring around the UK. I did consider T4’s. My original plan was to buy a T4 and convert it myself, but after consideration I didn’t have the time nor the money, and the Murvi came up on eBay when I had the cash!
All the best.
Hi interesting to hear of the T5 decision. I have a similar dilemna, what to buy when you want reliable comfort and all the camping interior etc.
How much does a conversion cost to a T5 shell?

Steve, I just had to drop you a line - Ive bought a van almost identical to yours for just about the same reasons! Although I adore the old split screens and would love another like the old ‘83 Transporter Bus i had when the kids were small, I just had to go for the speed and reliablity of a newish one as I live in N Lincs and visit 3 of my daughters in London several times a year… Ive just had 4 windows fitted and as its the same colour and reg as yours, is looking about identical. Get in touch, maybe we can swap tips?!

Hi Sharpy,
Sounds like you have good taste (or we both have bad taste??). As I have said, I love the old vans, but being able to hope in my T5 and cruise along the motorway with no problems does feel amazing. When I have enough money it would be great to have a T5 for day to day and a Split or Early bay for shows, but at the moment that is not doable.
Are you having yours converted to a camper - who are you using? Send some photos to info@vwcampervanblog.com!
