Readers Rides #11 & #12: Two VW Type 25 Vans

This weeks Readers Rides comes from Jim Cox who runs the cool gift ideas company, giftlab.co.uk. Jim is lucky enough to own 2 Volkswagen T25 Vans, both of them very well restored. Jim was kind enough to send in some photos of his VW Vans for us to see:
Van 1
Model: Type 25 (T25)
Location: London
Color: Nissan Figaro Lapis grey
Engine: Reconditioned 1900 waterboxer engine
Wheels: Audi S4 18″ wheels (later changed to porsche teledials), 45mm drop
Conversion: Custom hand made camping interior, cream vinyl retrim and full headlining.
About the van
My T25 had a full feature in VW Camper and Commercial a few years ago. It was originally a filthy old white panel van and work included the respray in Nissan Figaro Lapis grey, cutting in tinted marine grade windows, dropping it 45mm and adding some Audi S4 18″ wheels (later changed to Porsche Teledials).
I also had a reconditioned 1900 waterboxer engine installed, added a vintage look roofrack and windscreen visor and had a fully custom and hand made camping interior which features cream vinyl retrim and full headlining, a big stereo and various other bits and bobs including vintage bus badges.

Van 2
Model: Type 25 (T25)
Location: London
Color: BMW Mini Pepper White (cream)
Engine: 1.9TD engine from a Passat and a cogbox built long ratio box
Wheels: Detailed steel wheels and whitewalls, 45mm drop
Conversion: Custom hand built camping interior.
About the van
The cream one was an even filthier old panel van, full of oily old parts! This is my work van so I’ve kept it as a panel van with, again, a custom hand built camping interior, but this time much simpler - sort of a ‘rolling lounge’ with good storage.
It’s been sprayed in BMW Mini Pepper White, with detailed steel wheels and whitewalls, 45mm drop, custom chrome mirrors, blue tint cab glass, vinyl front seat re-trim, big stereo, vintage badges and number plates.
The main change though is a mildly tuned 1.9TD engine from a Passat and a cogbox built long ratio ‘box. This makes it good for 35mpg and 85mph cruising. It’s subtle, a bit retro looking and very practicle. I love it!
Further work this year will include a re-trim, custom headlining with a pretty unique look to it, DVD installation, banded rear rims, vintage steering wheel and possibly air ride suspension if I can find someone to do it.

Thanks to Jim for sending in and sharing these photos of his awesome vans! Be sure to check out giftlab.co.uk for some cool VW related gifts.

Never been a huge fan of the T25…(sorry Steve) but I would definately have one of these, especially the grey one…..awesome, I only wish I had the pennys to trim mine to that level.
No Worries Rick - It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things! Although I have to agree about the Grey T25 shown here, very cool and I love that interior!
