Readers Rides #22: 1978 Westy
This weeks readers rides comes from Laura Anne who is sharing her 1978 Westy with us.
Laura purchased her van in February this year and with her boyfriend Trey they’ve just finished a complete resoration on the van. As you can see from the initial images the van wasn’t much of a looker.
“The car is in good condition, some rust here & there, nothing too major. There’s a large dent just under the left head light which we are preparing to fill with body filler. The car came with an extra sliding door that has little rust damage, and a plethora of other spare & original parts. The PO (previous owner) had done a lot of the dirty work already. He completely gutted the interior and took the old Formica off the storage compartments. He replaced the front beam, shocks, brakes, did some body work, cleaned the pop top. The only thing missing from the bus is the canvas tent-like material that goes in the pop top. But it did come with the AWESOME tent that attaches to the outside of the sliding door. Very awesome!”
Over the next couple of months Laura and Trey worked hard on the van including sanding it down (a lot of sanding down by the sounds of it!), reupholstering the seats, replacing seals, fine tuning the camper interior, filling…. you get the idea…. they worked very hard!
As you can see from the images below Laura worked hard to keep her van individual. The tapestry in the pop top, choice of fabrics and Oldsmobile Eighty Eight front Seats are most certainly unique!
Based on the images above you can see that Laura is living the camper van dream! Camping by the nearest lake you find, chilling next to beautiful sunsets….

So, what do you think of Laura’s van?
