Readers Rides #3: VW T25 1989 Westfalia Multivan Magnum Edition

This weeks Readers Rides comes from a fellow Devonian, James Richards from Newton Abbot who shows us his German imported VW T25:
Model: Volkswagen T25 / Type 25 Multivan Magnum Edition
Year: 1989
Conversion: Westfalia
Colour: Silver
Engine: 2.1 WBX
About the Van
Here’s my van, It’s a 1989 Westfalia Multivan Magnum Edition. 2.1 WBX. It’s only had 1 German owner from new and had a full VW history. It was still on its export plates when I picked it up, so I had to register it at DVLA in Exeter myself. I’ve done a few bit’s to since we got it. Lowered it, new grill etc… It’s in great condition for the age really, I guess it must have been garaged all it’s life.
The Biggest job so far was to fit an original Westfalia pop top, which was a bit scary cutting a huge hole in the roof!! And I’m just about put a Subaru 2.2 engine in the back, can’t resist to tinker.
We’ve been over to france 3 times so far, getting a bit more adventurous each time!

Thanks to James for this insight in to his Volkswagen Van. What do you think of James’ T25?

That’s a really nice looking straight bus James and super practical, especially with a 2.2 subaru in the back - have you done that now? If so how did it go - thinking along the same lines myself along with big disc conversion. Anything to watch out for?
Hi Jim,
Sorry mate, missed your comment somehow. I completed the engine conversion back in February this year. It’s a fairly straight forward job, I used conversion part from RJES, which are very good quality, they can also prepare the wiring loom for you. If your planning on doing it, my advice would be always buy a complete running donor car, then you’ll have everything you need and know that it works! It’s a big improvement over standard in performance and economy, go for it you won’t regret it.
