Readers Rides #9: 1978 Volkswagen Type 2 Bay Window Bus

This weeks Readers Rides comes from Russ, another VW fan I have met on Twitter (if you are not already following us you can follow the VW Camper Van Blog on Twitter here). Russ shows us his 1978 VW Bay Window Bus:

Year: 1978

Conversion: Westfalia standard Campmobile

Location: Georgia, United States

Color: Sage Green L63H

Miles: 217,000

Engine: 2.0L Type IV, Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection

About the van

I purchased September 2000 and drove it daily for 4 years. I then sold it in 2004, and then re-purchasedthe van from the same guy in 2007. I had the engine replaced with another Type 4 from an air-cooled Vanagon and had it repainted in 2001, although almost everything inside is original.

Modifications/accessories:

New poptop canvas, H4 headlights, Pertronix electronic ignition, in-dash DVD player, retractable seatbelts, gas shocks, hot start relay, VDO quartz clock, Westfalia drive-away tent, plaid camper stool, child’s cot, rear table, mosquito screen.
