Back in September 2010 we introduced Ben, a VW newbie who was searching for his dream campervan. Six months on and they have a new addition to the family…
So, we were still undecided, but certainly leaning towards a classic camper. You know when you think you know what you want, so you keep looking for bad news and reviews about the alternatives to help justify your decision?
Every evening was spent looking online at reviews, seller’s websites, eBay and anything camper related. Then I found a website that just clicked with me. VW Kampers near Brighton had a website that was easy on the eye and written in a style that epitomised my feelings for the lifestyle. The company seemed perfect too – they specialised in T2’s, across classic late Bay’s AND Brazilian imports. (more…)

Our latest readers rides comes from David. The owner of a beautiful VW T2.
Make/Model: VW T2a, Bay Window
Year: February 1970
Colour: Red/White
Engine: 1600cc, (still leaded) petrol
Conversion: Devon Camper
Additional Details: Almost as original, i.e. drum brakes, original interior, original engine, ‘original’ oil stains on the drive.
About the Van:
“I bought the van as an 18 year old in 2005, having finished school and started working for a year to fund a Europe trip. It’s a familiar story to begin with; young man buys old VW, gets hooked, becomes
addicted to ‘the scene’, spends unlimited time learning about mechanical engineering, original interior fittings, gritty little details etc, works like a blue-arsed fly to afford chassis welding and aesthetic touches. (more…)

This weeks readers rides comes from Laura Anne who is sharing her 1978 Westy with us.
Laura purchased her van in February this year and with her boyfriend Trey they’ve just finished a complete resoration on the van. As you can see from the initial images the van wasn’t much of a looker.
“The car is in good condition, some rust here & there, nothing too major. There’s a large dent just under the left head light which we are preparing to fill with body filler. The car came with an extra sliding door that has little rust damage, and a plethora of other spare & original parts. The PO (previous owner) had done a lot of the dirty work already. He completely gutted the interior and took the old Formica off the storage compartments. He replaced the front beam, shocks, brakes, did some body work, cleaned the pop top. The only thing missing from the bus is the canvas tent-like material that goes in the pop top. But it did come with the AWESOME tent that attaches to the outside of the sliding door. Very awesome!” (more…)

This weeks readers rides come from Martin, who’s sharing with us his 1989 VW T25 - Boris.
Model: T25
Year: 1989
Colour: Off white, creamy colour
Engine: 1900cc petrol 4 speed
Camper conversion: Holdsworth 2 berth
We had been thinking about buying a VW camper and decided to go to Vanfest for the day back in 2006. We had approached my bank to see if they would loan us £5,000 which they agreed to, so off we went to Vanfest on the Saturday with the intention of buying a van. We had a good look around and then went to the sales area. We saw some really nice vans but were out of our price range and we also saw some very rough ones that would have needed lots spending on.

Mia is a 22 year old model who has recently become the owner of her 1978 VW Bay Window Bus.
Mia is planning to travel the US in her van with her dog Krueger for company volunteering for various wildlife organisations as she goes (sounds great doesn’t it??)! However Mia does have issues with her not quite road worthy vessel: “The fuel pump is a bit busted, if it’s been sitting, I can stick some gas in the carb and after some coaxing, the bus will start up. My dad’s a mechanic so I’m not too worried about the mechanical jazz - but I am curious about swapping in a biodeisel or just a regular tdi engine.” Well folks any thoughts on swapping a biodesisel or tdi engine?

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new VWCamperVanBlog.com. Being a VW Camper Van Owner myself ( as well as a graphic designer ) I have decided to set up this blog to provide informatative and entertaining content about VW Camper Vans and Vw Buses. The idea is to build a community of VW Van owners who will provide articles to be published on the website.
I have owned my T25 for just over three years and have been surprised by the lack of blogs there are on this subject. I have come across a few that I regularly log on to ( Club 80 90 / The Just Kampers Forum / The Brick Yard ) but I have not found very many VW blogs.
