The VW Camper Van Blog is a website for lovers of all types of VW campers from Split Screens and Bays to T25’s and T4’s.

Anyone following me on Twitter will know that over the weekend I was tweeting plenty of photos of VW camper vans. This is because I am lucky enough to have a very good Volkswagen Camper Van and Bus Show held right on my doorstep. I first stumbled upon the Dubs at the Beach show in it’s first year in 2005. Back then we had just returned from a 6 month trip around the world (a lot of which was done in a camper van - see here, here and here) and we had decided we wanted a VW Van.

We were just heading out the door one Sunday afternoon in August to view a Bay Window van in Truro. Don’t get me wrong, this was certainly not a show model but we just wanted to start getting some ideas as to what we wanted. As we were getting in the car we had a call from a friend of ours saying ‘you know you were looking for a Volkswagen Camper Van? Well get down the seafront now as there is loads of them here!!’

So instead of a couple of hours drive in the heat to see one average looking Bay Window Bus, we walked about 3 minutes from the Flat we were living in at the time to the beach to view hundreds of amazing vans! It was great to have a look at what people had done with their vans and 3 weeks later we bought our VW Type 25!

So it is now 4 years on and the Dubs at the Beach Show is in it’s 5th successful year. The last few years were disappointing due to the weather but with temperatures hitting 25 degrees, the show was back to its former glory.

The show, which is run by a local VW Owners Group who go by the name of Riviera Dubs (www.rivieradubs.com), consists of 2 nights camping in Chruston (in between Paignton and Brixham). Then on the Sunday all the vans cruise down to Paignton Seafront for the usual ‘Show and Shine’ events in a wonderful setting right on the beach.

Unfortunately, as the event is so close to home, I have never attended the camping part of the event but the Sunday show is definitely worth the trip.

So I thought I would post some photos of this years event in the hopes that it entice more people down next year!

  Hi Steve - no it is the 18th one down (the green camper in the foreground that you can see the VW badge on), the same as the one at the very top of this page on an angle.
  I see you are looking for Camper stories too. I picked up my bus when working in Colorado while working a ski season at the end of the season we drove from colorado across to California (via grand canyon, vegas etc) then spent a couple of weeks on the coast chilling out!
