Winner Announced for the ‘Uneasy Rider - Confessions Of A Reluctant Traveller’ book

Book Review: Uneasy Rider - Confessions of a Reluctant Traveller by Allie Sommerville

Back in March, the VW Camper Van Blog started a competition to win Allie Sommerville’s book “Uneasy Rider - Confessions of a reluctant traveller.”

To enter the competition all you had to do is tell us your funniest story in your VW camper van. The winner was Rick with his great story:

“To the britsh superbike round at oulton park in Lincolnshire we had everything well and truly packed in ready for our first adventure in our camper. The camper had only recently been finished, well when I say finished I mean just capable of housing us for a long weekend most of the significant details had still to be done but at least we’d got the pop-top on. Anyway the wife and I set off on Friday just after work, slightly worried that I might be one of those campers at the side of the road we decided to take it steady. To cut a long story short the most interesting part of our journey was when we were crossing the Humber Bridge, there was I arm hanging out the window on a lovely summers evening. However the only problem was that once we got into the middle of the bridge we got a cross wind coming in the van and all of a sudden the pop-top lifted up. Now being in the middle of a bridge like that you can’t stop so after a bit of quick thinking I managed to persuade the wife to get in the back and pull it back down, only we gave a bulkhead not a walk-through. However after throwing herself into the back she managed to grab hold, but still coundn’t pull it down, it wasn’t until I had virtually stopped that it came down. She then managed to hold it down until we reached the other side, where I promptly got shouted at. Great start to the weekend.”
